If things feel a little boring at home, it might be time for a change in position. We’re talking about your furniture.

In this week’s blog, we’re dissecting how a change in position can reignite your home’s spark. Learn how to ditch "Wall-Hugger Syndrome" with provocative angles, shop your own collection through a decor exchange, and finally weaponize your ceiling for a total architectural takeover.

Try a New Angle: The Power of 45 Degrees

Most people suffer from Wall-Hugger Syndrome, the urge to push every piece of furniture against the perimeter. It’s a cautious way to live.

The Rule Breaker Move: Pull the sofa off the wall and place it at a provocative 45-degree angle.

The Result: This intentional shift creates an immediate sense of confidence that forces a new flow and opens up conversation pockets. “Carve out new energy” shares Amanda Steinert Francfort, founder and principal designer of ASF Interiors, “ force a perspective shift that makes even your oldest furniture feel like a brand-new discovery."

Don’t Be Afraid to Swap: The Decor Exchange

Familiarity is the enemy of passion. If that iconic piece in your bedroom no longer makes your heart race, it’s not the object, it’s the location.

The Rule Breaker Move: Shop your own home. Take your most fearless decor and swap their environments.

The Result: By moving items out of their "assigned" roles, you see them in a fresh light. It’s about rediscovering the objects you love and realizing they have more to say than you originally thought.

Go All the Way (To the Ceiling)

If you’re "wallpaper curious," don’t be a tease. Stopping at the crown molding is a missed opportunity for total immersion; it’s like reading half a love story and calling it a day. Amanda asserts “At ASF, we don't ignore the fifth wall, we weaponize it.”

The Rule Breaker Move: Wrap the ceiling. Whether it’s a deep, velvety pigment or a fearless pattern, the fifth wall is your canvas. True positioning isn't just about where you stand; it’s about what you see when you look up.

The Result: This is the difference between a room that looks decorated and a space that possesses Spatial Gravitas. It is a complete architectural takeover that proves you have the confidence to own every square inch of your environment.

I LOVE the use of the "fifth wall"! Saw so much of it in the parade of homes and it was so inspiring! My favorite is the use of wallpapers on the ceiling.
